Spotify Web Player not working? Spotify is one of the most widely used platforms out there for music lovers. With a vast collection of music on Spotify and millions of subscribers, any type of downtime is unacceptable. Although not perfect, Spotify is pretty good about its server up-time.
Sometimes, the issue occurs not on Spotify but on the end user’s computer. If the end-user does not know the steps to troubleshoot the problem, it can be frustrating and may even end up giving up on Spotify.
Here are some of the commonly used troubleshooting steps to fix Spotify Web Player issues.
Open Spotify Web Player in Google Chrome
Chrome is one of the most widely used web browsers out there and with an excellent reputation. If you don’t already have Chrome installed, download Google Chrome Here and install it. Open Chrome after installation and visit Spotify.com, and that may resolve any issues you were having with Spotify on other web browsers.
If you are already using Google Chrome and still have issues with Spotify Web Player not loading, press CTRL + SHIFT + N within Chrome to open up an incognito window. An incognito Chrome window will prevent any troublesome extensions from loading, and it gives you a clean slate. Visit Spotify.com using incognito mode to see everything works as it should.
If the Spotify Web player works without any issues in Chrome incognito mode, then it is time to clear your browser cache and disable any conflicting extensions.
Closeout of incognito mode and go back to your regular Google Chrome session. From there, press CTRL + H, then click on “Clear browsing data.” Click on the advanced tab and select “All time” for the time range.
Once all items are selected except “Passwords and other sign-in-data” and “Autofill form-data,” go ahead and delete the data. Once done, close Chrome and re-open it.
If you are still having issues, we will try to disable Google Chrome extensions one at a time in a trial and error process. Be sure to try the Spotify Web Player functions each time you disable a Chrome extension to find the culprit.
You can disable Google Chrome extensions, as shown below.
Use the slider to disable an extension or click remove to get rid of it completely. To troubleshoot Spotify Web Player Not Working problems, you can disable the extension.
Once you find the culprit that is causing your Spotify Web Player not to load, please remove it altogether.
Enable Protected Content
You may get a warning saying that “Playback of Protected Content is not Enabled” in some web browsers. The error usually happens during your first visit to the Spotify website or the Spotify Web Player. Once you enable the playback of protected content on your web browser, this error will disappear.
Here is how to enable protected content within your web browser, depending on the program you use.
For Google Chrome, go to your settings > Privacy & Security > Site Settings > Scroll all the way down to Additional Content Settings > Click on Protected Content.

For Firefox, be sure to enable Protected Content as shown below.
Also, please make sure DRM is enabled under Firefox settings as shown below. Some of the Spotify Web Player not working issues can be associated with DRM.
If you are on a PC, here is the link to settings, copy and paste the following into the Firefox address bar to access settings. Search for “DRM” in the search bar.
Flush Network DNS Cache
If you are able to load the website and the Spotify Web Player but not able to play any songs, try clearing your DNS cache. This is an easy fix and the most overlooked.
If you are on Windows 10, press the Windows Key + R then type in the following
If you are on Mac or Linux, Clear DNS Cache as shown below.

CTRL+ALT+T to open the Terminal and then copy and paste the following into the terminal window and press enter, you may need to input the administrator password when prompted.
sudo /etc/init.d/nscd restart
Clear DNS Cache in Mac
If you are using a recent version of Mac OS X, please use the following command to clear the DNS cache. Press the F4 key to open the Launchpad and search for Terminal.
Copy and paste the following into the Terminal window and press enter. Enter the admin password if prompted.
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

Spotify Web Player Not Working, Spotify Songs Won’t Play
Sometimes you can browse the Spotify Web Player without any issues, but you cannot listen to any songs. In that case, please try the following steps.
Browse the Spotify Web Player as usual, then go into the Album you would like to listen to, and then copy the song’s link that you would like, as highlighted below.
Open up a new web browser tab as shown below and paste the link into the new browser tab’s address bar, then press Enter.
The above steps may very well work as a quick fix.
